Book Keeping
Although often complex and time consuming, book-keeping is an essential part of your business and forms the building blocks required to produce the information that you need in order to build your business efficiently. It is often costly if not kept up to date and can lead to avoidable penalties such as Late VAT Registration penalties, surcharges etc.
Ainsley Smith & Co. offer manual and computerised systems, depending on the size of your business and can advise on the best system for you. Our most popular computer software package is Sage and after discussion and evaluation of you requirements we can offer selection of the right package along with any training and support you require. Many Sole Traders still prefer the manual system and again we can advise and train you or your staff on tailor made systems for your business. Both systems can be reviewed as often as you would like and can be maintained by you or your staff after training, or you can pass the burden to us. Simply pass us your Sales & Purchase invoices, Bank Statements along with cheque and pay-in details regularly, preferably monthly, and we will do the rest - even file all your records away neatly for future reference. If you decide to do the book-keeping yourself we can offer you a book-keeping health check on a regular basis to ensure important issues like turnover figures for VAT purposes etc. are not being missed. Whatever you decide we can design a package that takes the stress away from you and lets you focus on the most important part - running your business.
VAT
H.M. Revenue & Customs introduce more regulations each year, making it difficult for traders to ensure that their business complies with the latest regulations and avoid any penalties. Ainsley Smith & Co. can advise you on any of the following VAT matters:
- Registration and De-registration. Late registration is very costly so let us advise you on the right time to register and avoid penalties and interest.
- The best scheme for your business. There are many different ways of recording and paying VAT such as Cash Accounting Scheme and various Flat Rate Schemes. Using the right scheme can save you a lot of money.
- Assessment Notices or disputes
- Partial Exemption
- DIY Scheme for those building their own home
Whatever your needs phone us for a friendly chat and we can discuss what we can offer to help your business move forward.

Our most popular computer software package is Sage. As your business grows you may be on a manual system and need to progress to a computerised package. Ainsley Smith & Co. offer a complete package, maintaining Sales, Purchases and Nominal Ledgers, along with monthly reconciliation of Bank and Cash Accounts, running VAT Reports and completion of VAT Returns and finally management accounts for discussion with you as little or often as you require as to how well your business is progressing. If you are happy to input the necessary data to Sage we can assist with monthly reports, VAT Returns etc, or simply advise you on the best package and initial training. Again the choice is yours but whatever you decide we want to help you make all your book-keeping stress free and therefore focus and enjoy building your business.
